How We Take Notes

Places are context, not guarantees.

We use real, named beaches such as Waikiki, Fistral Beach, Muizenberg, Malibu and Uluwatu to explain how surf settings differ. We do not rank them as universally “best,” and we do not treat a past description as live safety information.

Our notes prioritise shore observation, instruction, board control, etiquette and environmental care. Surf conditions can shift quickly; visitors should consult local lifeguards, qualified instructors, official beach information and current weather and marine guidance before entering the water.

Editorial approach

• Describe enduring geography and culture rather than live claims.
• Use plain language for new surfers without removing important uncertainty.
• Avoid promotional links, paid rankings and affiliate recommendations.
• Encourage respectful engagement with local lineups and coastlines.
